PHD is a Vietnamese restaurant in Marrickville specialising in Pho noodles, but also serving a wide range of delicious and popping fresh Vietnamese food.

I’m a big fan of Vietnamese food, but until now my only real experience with it had been Pho 88 in Newtown and a few random takeaway places that just did Pho. I’ve since started trying to find more restauranty places and try out more of the menus, and have so far loved everything I’ve tried.

This time I was with a couple of friends so we each got something different, trying out the Bun (a cold noodle salad with fried chicken) and 2 types of Pho noodles, as well as some rice rolls.

The Bun (pronounced Boon, apparently) is a delicious dish for hot days, being a refreshing cold noodle salad with a spicy/sweet chilled sauce and so many different pockets of ingredients that each bite gives a different explosion of contradicting flavours. The bite of the mint and herbs, the spicy chillis chopped up in the sauce, the sweet sugary bits of the sauce, the saltiness of the fried chicken pieces, and smoothness of the coconut cream. It really is an amazingly nice dish.

The Pho eaten by my friends was also really good. The broth was super tasty, and the servings were massive for their price.

All-round I really enjoyed this place, and will definitely be going back to try more.
